Nuclear for better life
The Finland-based company Fennovoima Oy has recently sent its instructors to visit the Training Center of the Leningrad NPP, to learn about the training procedure in place for the operations personnel working at their new VVER-1200 reactors. “We talked about how the Training Center was structured, how much theoretical and practical information the training encompassed, about the facilities and resources utilized by the Center etc.,” said Vaclav Vejborny, Instructor at Fennovoima Oy.
The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) and Rusatom Healthcare, the healthcare division of ROSATOM, today signed an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of non-power related uses of nuclear technology on the sidelines of BRICS Summit. The agreement aims to explore the full potential of deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of innovation and technological development related to peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
On July 08, 2018 the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) granted a license for design and construction of Rooppur NPP power unit No 2 constructed under the Russian design to the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). The document confirms the safety and gives a permission to commence the construction of the second power unit.
ROSATOM plans shortly to conclude contracts with new countries for construction of NPPs abroad. At the present time, ROSATOM has 67% of the world nuclear plant construction market, as head of the state-owned corporation Alexei Likhachev reported to Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He said that at the present time the orders portfolio exceeded US $133 billion.
ROSATOM and the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Rwanda signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy. On the Russian side, the document signed Rosatom Deputy Director General – Director of International Affairs Department Nikolay Spasskiy, and on the Rwandan side — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda to the Russian Federation Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya.
At Unit 1 of Belarus NPP (General Architect and General Contractor is ASE, Engineering Division of ROSATOM) specialists have completed installing the containment pre-stressing system. At the present time, specialists of the Representation Office of Trust RosSEM LLC in the Republic of Belarus (part of the Engineering Division of ROSATOM) have completed tension of all bundles with the initial controlled force.
Russian and Chinese nuclear executives have signed the biggest package of contracts in the history of the two countries’ nuclear partnership. The package consists of 4 deals and envisages the construction of 4 Gen 3+ VVER-1200 units (at the Xudabao and Tianwan sites), cooperation in the CFR-600 fast reactor pilot project, and supply of the RITEG (Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator) parts for China’s lunar exploration programme.
The design of the virtual digital NPP (VDNPP) developed by JSC VNIIAES (a subsidiary of JSC Rosenergoatom Concern) jointly with the Nuclear Safety Institute of RAS may be used in implementation of the sectoral project ‘Proryv’. Scientific Supervisor of the project Evgeniy Adamov said this after he had been demonstrated the capabilities of the virtual digital NPP.
Building on their cooperation and studies performed for a large NPP, Russia and Jordan have decided to intensify and step up their cooperation in the field of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). A Project Development Agreement has been executed between Jordan Atomic Energy Commission and Rosatom Overseas to enable the parties to conduct a joint feasibility study for a Russian-designed SMR construction project in Jordan.
On May 24, 2018 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum JSC Rusatom Automated Control Systems (JSC RASU, the integrator of ROSATOM in I&C and electrical engineering) signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Schneider Electric (France), the world leader in energy management. The document is aimed at further cooperation for high safety and reliability, cost-efficiency, as well as better competitiveness of electrical equipment for NPP power units and electric power grid.
