Nuclear for better life
On November 13, 2018 installation of the device for catching the molten core material (core catcher) has been commenced at Kursk NPP-2 Unit 1 (ASE, ROSATOM Engineering Division is the General Designer and General Contractor). The first element of the device - the core catcher vessel was installed in the design position.
Power start-up of Tianwan NPP (TNPP) power unit No.4 being constructed in China under the Russian NPP design with VVER-1000 reactors took place on October 27 2018 at 01:53 msk. The fourth power unit produced the first kilowatts of output to the national grid system.
On October 19, 2018 a solemn ceremony was held in Uzbekistan to celebrate the launch of the first NPP construction project in Uzbekistan. The event marked the beginning of investigation studies to select the construction site for the future NPP.
The Baltijskiy Zavod specialists completed October 2, 2018 loading nuclear fuel into the second of two reactors – the portside reactor – of the world-only floating nuclear power plant ‘Akademik Lomonosov’, which is based on the site of FSUE Atomflot (a ROSATOM’s subsidiary) in Murmansk. Thus, the second stage of preparing the FNPP to the first criticality has been completed.
AAEM LLC (a joint venture of Atomenergomash JSC and General Electric) has entered into the contract with DEZ JSC (acting on behalf of Atomstroyexport JSC, a general contractor for the El Dabaa project) to supply turbine hall equipment for Units 1 to 4 of the El Dabaa nuclear power station in Egypt.
Singapore, 19 September, 2018 – ROSATOM, through its subsidiary, Rusatom Healthcare, and Australian Securities Exchange-listed Asian American Medical Group (“AAMG”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) today to develop a Nuclear Medical Centre in Johor Bahru in Malaysia, bordering Singapore.
Russia and Uzbekistan have signed a cooperation agreement to build a nuclear power plant in the republic. The signing ceremony was held after the negotiations of the prime ministers of Russia and Uzbekistan. The documents were signed by Head of the Cabinet of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and Head of the Government of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov.
Rosatom Southeast Asia and Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today pursuant of the Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy use for peaceful purposes, signed between Russia and Cambodia last year. Institute of Technology of Cambodia will provide a basis on which to develop the Information Center for Atomic Energy in this country.
The installation of the device for catching the molten core material ("core catcher") has commenced at the construction site of power unit No 1 of Roopur NPP. “This is a unique protection system of the NPP and the first large-size equipment that is being installed in the reactor building. Its weight is about 200 tons. According to the schedule, the installation will be completed in 6 months”, said Alexander Khazin, senior vice-president for overseas projects.
