Nuclear for better life
In 2018, FSUE Atomflot’s nuclear icebreakers steered 331 ships of a total gross capacity 12.7 mln tons. As compared to 2017, the capacity of steered ships increased by 5 mln tons. With that, the number of steering operations decreased (last year it was 493 ships) due to completion of the active phase of construction in the port of Sabetta and reduction of flow of vessels carrying cargoes for construction.
TVEL Fuel company of ROSATOM and the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India signed the contract for supplies of uranium fuel pellets for the units of Tarapur NPP powered by BWR reactors.
On January 17, 2019, during the visit of the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin to the Republic of Serbia, a package of agreements was signed in Belgrade. It creates a legal foundation for the practical implementation of joint projects in the field of nuclear energy use for peaceful purposes: an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy use based on proven and innovative technologies.
In 2018, Russian nuclear power plants (branches of Rosenergoatom) set a new electricity production record which is 204.275 bln kilowatt-hours, accrued cumulative output and exceeded achievement of 2017 (202.868 bln kWh) by more than 1.4 bln kWh.
On December 21, at 11:30 PM, following 45 years of safe operation, the 1st power block of the Leningrad nuclear power plant (an affiliate of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, the Electric Power division of ROSATOM) was fully stopped. This was the lead power block in the RBMK-1000 series and the first 1000 megawatt high-power reactor in the USSR.
The Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) has provided Akkuyu NPP, that implements the first nuclear power plant project in Turkey, with a Limited Work Permit for the construction of Unit 2 of Akkuyu NPP.
MURMANSK, 6 December 2018 - Reactor unit No.1 of the world’s only floating power unit (FPU), Akademik Lomonosov, was turned on at 10% of its capacity. The FPU is now moored at the Atomflot site (a ROSATOM company) in Murmansk. Technicians completed all necessary preparatory operations and performed all required assessments before the procedure.
Russia and Argentina signed a Strategic document on the margins of the G20 summit, confirming their partnership in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Alexey Likhachev, Director General of ROSATOM, signed the document on Russia’s behalf; Javier Iguacel, Argentina's Minister of Energy, signed it on Argentina’s behalf.

A team of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts confirmed the commitment of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of the Rosatom Electric Power Division) to safety principles. The experts also pointed out the Company’s several good practices, which can benefit the entire global nuclear community.
